WoodLINKS announces
new board members
WoodLINKS USA announced Mitch Kohanek
and Thomas Tuck as new board members who
took office in July.
Kohanek, of Dakota County Technical College, is an instructor for the college’s Wood Finishing Technology Program in Rosemount, Minn.
Tuck, of SCM Group USA Inc., received his
WoodLINKS Certification and works as a marketing
coordinator and regional sales manager at SCM.

According to participating members in
the KCMA monthly Trend of Business
Survey, cabinet sales for May 2009 decreased 35. 2 percent compared to sales
for May 2008.
Stock cabinet sales decreased 34. 3
percent, semi-custom sales decreased
34. 9 percent and custom sales also
decreased 34. 9 percent.
The year-to-date sales show a decrease
of 33 percent, with stock sales down 25. 5
percent, semi-custom sales down 37.8 percent and custom sales down 40.9 percent.
Survey participants include stock, semi-custom and custom companies whose
combined sales represent more than 50
percent of the U.S. cabinet market.

Alliance to FSC Chain-of-Custody and Controlled Wood Standards.
BIFMA International has announced
a new product certification standard
called “level.” The new furniture
sustainability standard will address
material use, energy and atmospheric impacts, human and ecosystem
health and social responsibility.
