The Association for Retail Environments’ 54th annual convention will feature Alan Beaulieu as this year’s keynote speaker, Nov. 11-14, 2009, at The Breakers in Palm Beach, Fla.
Beaulieu, an economic futurist, will lead the discussion on what the retail environments industry can expect in the near future and what a coming economic recovery may look like.
For the past 15 years, Beaulieu has offered workshops, economic analysis and seminars across the U.S. and consulted for companies in Europe and Japan on how to work through the business cycle.

The Survey of Equipment Finance Activity 2009 by the Equipment Leasing and Finance Association shows that new business volume declined 2. 2 percent in 2008 in the 122 companies surveyed, as compared with a 2 percent increase of the 154 companies in 2007, according to a press release.
Banks’ share of new business volume grew slightly by 0.9 percent while Captives and Independents’ volume decreased by 1. 8 percent and 8. 1 percent, respectively.
From an asset perspective, agriculture, energy, health care, materials handling and office products enjoyed modest growth. By end-user industry, the top performance categories were agriculture, forestry and fishing, finance, insurance and real estate, health services and utilities. Industrial and manufacturing sectors’ new business volume remained constant. By market segment, the micro-ticket market showed the greatest new business volume decrease 19. 1 percent.
